About Us

Perth Crankers is a Cycle Hash Club. We are a mixed, adults only hash which rides once a month on a Sunday. Check the HairLine Tab for next ride information. $10 for ride (drink stops included) and nosh. $2 a cold beer or cider. BYO wine. Run sites are always within a short ride of a train station so you don't need to drive home.

The Concept-So what is a Bike Hash Anyway?

A bike hash or “bash” is a bunch of people (“bashers” or “hounds” ) cycling around in an area, either the Perth City or out in the bush, following trail markings. The concept is to keep the “pack” together through a series of checks and false trails so that the fast and not so fast riders (fat bastards) get home together.

It’s a bit like a treasure hunt meeting or orienteering except we do get to drink a beer at the end and have a heavy leaning toward the social side of the event. In fact each trail has a compulsory two or sometimes three drinks stops on trail.   Bike Hash is closely associated with the world wide Hash House Harriers social running group.

It’s all meant to be fun!

For mountain bikers , part of the attraction of the bike hash is  that gets you onto new trails as no two hashes are ever the same. We ride all over the city and local countryside, always starting from or close to a train station so there is no need to drive. In summer especially there is a fair bit of off road bush riding.

How will I do this if I am a fat bastard?

Bike Hash is intended to be accessible to riders of all abilities. There are generally two “runs” a Long and a Scenic so coupled with a cleverly marked trail anyone should be able to keep up with the pack and get to the beer on time... and with a well developed and well deserved thirst.

Hash History

“Hashing” evolved in pre-war Malaysia by idle expats who felt compelled to justify their drinking habits in other ways than the occasional rugby game and is now an international activity with more than 1000 chapters worldwide.

The Hash House Harriers has been famously described as a drinking club for people with a running problem. “Hash” first came to Perth in February 1970 when the Perth Hash House Harriers was established. Since then Perth has evolved into a “Hash Megacentre” with over 20 active chapters or kennels in the greater Metro Area and an estimated 600-700 active hashers.

In 2008, Perth hosted the World “Interhash” event with nearly 5,000 participants from every continent on the planet (Earth that is).

History of the Perth Crankers

Back in late 2008 a group of seasoned “Hashers” and experienced “Bashers” got together and decided Perth was ready for its first Bike Hash. This group comprised 2IC (Karratha Cycle on Mountain Hash), Cockbreath (Karratha Cycle on Mountain Hash), Concorde (Bullsbrook Hash House Harriers),  Fartin (Karratha Cycle on Mountain Hash and Bullsbrook Hash House Harriers), Screwdriver (KL Bike Hash, Mother Hash and Hamersley Hash House Harriers) and Shreck (Known to some in Karratha as On Call) (Karatha Cycle on Mountain Hash and Hamersley Hash House Harriers)

The first ride was held on Sunday 1st February at Trigg, in Perth’s Northern suburbs. It was set by Concord and Fartin and attracted some 45 riders.
